There’s too much information and not enough thinking.
Practically everything we consume is telling us we can’t… insert literally any worthwhile goal.
The dawah celebrities are busy protecting their bubble and many of the Muslim-appearing accounts online are run by anti-Muslim IT cells.
“Activists” only seem to be here for activism.
Protests seem to be more about the right to protest than the thing they claim to be protesting about.
It’s why I learnt to be proactive.
I’ve worked both for and with Muslims in real life and online. I’ve worked with mosques and seminaries. Charities and companies.
If I could talk to my younger self here’s what I’d say:
You must become proactive. It means knowing your mission in life, the principles you want to live by and the goals you want to achieve. A Proactive Muslim chooses for themselves. A reactive Muslims lets others choose for them.
Stop feeding your brain with junk information. Probably 99% of the content you see is designed to make you reactive. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. It’s about what it does to your mind.
You cannot be effective if you’re only concerned with things outside of your influence. This includes the genocide.
You will be effective if you focus only on things within your influence. This includes the genocide.
The Proactive Muslim works on things within their circle of influence SO THAT they can affect things in their circle of concern. This includes the genocide.
You feel powerless because all the content you consume and the “actions” promoted to you fall inside your circle of concern. Repeated exposure to things in your circle of concern is designed to keep you stuck in reactive behaviour patterns.
You will become powerful when you eliminate content—even if factually accurate—that’s outside of your circle of influence. Repeated and consistent efforts inside your circle of influence will expand your ability to influence even the things outside of it.
Write down your goals. Don’t simply think about them or want them in your heart. Literally write them down.
Worrying about too many things is making you feel powerless. Trying to do too many things is making you feel powerless. Focus on one thing.
Save 10% of every dollar you earn. This might be the most basic way to take back power when it comes to personal finance.
Talk to at least one new person and reconnect with at least one person you already know every single day. Your power is in your network.
You can solve most of your problems with more leads. More leads for your business. More leads for your projects. More reps to grow your power.
Much of Islamic thought today is just apologetics masquerading as “dawah”. Islam wins. It’s done. Focus on amplifying what that means.
Focus on salah. Salah fixes most things.
Focus on istighfar. Istighfar fixes most things.
Focus on salawat upon the Prophet. Salawat fixes most things.
Respect what works. Respect expertise. Don’t look to preachers for anything outside of worship—most of them don’t have a clue.
Block anyone and anything that doesn’t bring you closer to your goals. This includes Muslim accounts. In fact, it will mostly be Muslim accounts.
No one ever died from not replying to a stranger on the internet. No one ever died from being blocked. Make the block button your best friend.
Stop being so impressed by people stating the obvious. Yet another clip of someone “destroying” someone else by talking about the genocide is not the win you think it is.
Support Muslims no matter what the story is. Especially in front of non-Muslims.
Practically every piece of news that makes you hate Muslims, leaders of Muslims, Muslim countries or groups comes from an anti-Muslim source—even if you heard it from a Muslim or Muslim-appearing mouthpiece.
Blaming others is the most destructive thing we do. Stop blaming. Start taking personal responsibility.
Stop falling for anti-Muslim content no matter how real it may seem. If they’re Muslim, defend them in principle or stay quiet.
We are wholly responsible for normalising the genocide because we constantly share graphic images of our dead and injured. Refuse to be part of this. Respect the dignity of Muslims in death.
A public death is a disrespected death. A disrespected death does not move people in the way you think it does. Millions of disrespected deaths erased all meaning.
“Raising awareness” is the go-to excuse for useless actions.
Muslims need global istighfar. More Muslims doing more istighfar. This is a key piece we’re missing.
There are enough Sunnah prayers and adhkar to fill your entire day and then some. You don’t need a special recipe from some sheikh.
Saying Islam is easy is akin to saying Islam is unimportant (shout out to
).Saying Islam is a religion of peace is akin to saying Islam is a religion of wimps.
Don’t carry an inferiority complex from people who don’t know how to clean themselves after going to the toilet.
Procrastination is just a fancy word for not tolerating a mere 5 minutes of work. Just start. Suffer for 5 minutes. Realise you didn’t die. Keep working.
Eliminating riba is a core component of ending the drivers of genocide. Eliminating riba is a business question, not a fatwa question. Eliminating riba is goal we should all have.
You choose what your circumstances mean and you’re fully responsible for changing them.
