Goal Setting: How to Achieve Your Dreams
The foundational skill you cannot do without if you want to live a life of meaning, make a positive impact on the world and even change the course of history.
Have you ever felt like you just can't seem to get going?
Do you think about the type of life you want but don't know how to achieve it? Do you feel like you are reaching your full potential?
This guide will introduce you to the time-tested wisdom of personal development experts—and is the common skill shared by the most successful people in history. You will learn how to own and utilise this skill so you can become the type of person who attracts the necessary qualities to achieve your dreams.
First things first…
Are You Motivated?
We all go through this. That feeling of being stuck at the same job or in the same house, even the same country.
We all have ambitions. Everyone wants to increase their income, start a business, be financially independent. But why do most of us never seem to achieve our dreams?
The common answer is "we lack motivation". Many of us will even consume motivational content in the form of books, seminars and videos in the hopes of changing our current state.
But ask yourself this question: If I already have goals, if I already have ambitions, IF I ALREADY WANT THINGS… then doesn't it mean I'm already motivated?
Think about this for a moment.
Why do you need motivation if you already WANT something? The very fact you have goals means you are already motivated!
So if you aren't suffering from a lack of motivation, what’s holding you back? You can pin it down to three things:
Clarity
Focus
Concentration
You must become absolutely clear about who you are and what you want.
You must focus on your most important goals and activities.
And finally, you must concentrate, single-mindedly, until you have completed your tasks and achieved your goals.
Why Goal Setting?
Remember: If we already WANT something, we are already motivated to get it.
Achieving your dreams isn’t about GOAL WANTING.
It’s about GOAL SETTING.
Our dreams pull us through our objectives. Sustain us. Get us up early. Keep us up late…
They give us the drive to read all the books, take the all classes and do all the things necessary to achieve greatness.
This only happens if our goals, dreams and ultimately our purpose are strong enough that we will pay the price it takes to achieve them.
But how will you know any of this if you haven’t written your goals down?
When we achieve our dreams, the price seems so small.
And the first step is to write them down. The problem is most people neglect goal setting because they don’t teach this in school… apparently not even in the Harvard MBA program.
Strategic Sunnah is for people who are committed to Muslim Betterment. And you’re about to find out step-by-step exactly how to write down your goals so you can better you life and the lives of Muslims everywhere.
But first…
Allah says in the Quran,
And never say about anything, “I will do this tomorrow,”
Quran 18:23
unless (you say - ‘if) Allah wills.’ And remember your Lord if you forget, and say (to those who asked you about the story of the People of the Cave), “May be, my Lord will lead me to something closer than this to guidance.”
Quran 18:24
Never make a plan without saying "inshallah". The Strategic Sunnah here is to apply this command to intelligent goal setting.
Do You Even Know What You Want?
Yes, we all have dreams.
But if someone asked you to show them your list of goals, would you be able to produce it?
This is where goal setting comes in. It is a physical task. A written one.
You must put pen to paper—literally—and write down your goals. You must organise them, refine them. It must be a lifelong habit.
So how do you write goals?
The following is the tried and tested format for goal setting taught by personal development experts for decades.
Have a pen and paper ready and follow these steps.
It will only take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete… but will lay the foundation for a life lived to the full for the next 45 years and beyond… don’t waste this opportunity.
I’m confident, after completing the six easy exercises below, you will be blown away at the massive potential within you and kicking yourself for not finding this sooner.
And your potential is almost certain to become reality because of the secret behind these exercises:
The remarkable Harvard study:
In 1979, a group of Harvard MBA graduates were interviewed for a study.
The graduates were asked if they wrote down their goals.
The vast majority of the class, 87 percent of them—remember, these were Harvard graduates—said they did not have goals let alone wrote them down.
Only 13 percent of the graduates said they had goals for what they wanted in life but had not written them down.
And a tiny group of the graduates—only 3 percent—said they had clear goals and had written them down.
Ten years later, in 1989, the same Harvard graduates were interviewed again. The findings shocked the interviewers… and they will probably shock you too.
The 13 percent of graduates who said they had goals but hadn’t written them down were earning, on average, twice as much as the rest of the class all together.
But here’s where it gets crazy…
The 3 percent of graduates who said they had WRITTEN DOWN THEIR GOALS… were earning… on average…
TEN TIMES MORE than the rest of the class all together.
If you know the average salary of a 10 year Harvard MBA graduate you will realise how mind boggling this statistic is…
And the major difference was simply the fact they had…
