How About We Also Boycott People?
A call for refusing access to anyone who doesn't align with your values...
This post was originally behind the paywall. If after reading it you find that it helped you think differently, save time or move forward—consider leaving a $5+ tip.
Your support keeps high-quality life strategies accessible and helps sustain this work for even more goal-oriented Muslims.
There is something that is eating away at my soul.
And I think the same is probably happening to you to.
It’s not something that is out of our control…
It’s something that we allow to happen. Passively. Lazily.
I’m talking about the content we allow to pass in front of our eyes…
Content that we did not ask for but live in the same space simply because of the platforms we are using.
And I’ll give you one example that I hope will explain what I’m talking about:
I open X because I want to read what people I trust are saying about the genocide.
I see one, two, maybe ten posts that are informative, encouraging or thought-provoking.
Cool.
But the price for seeing these posts…
Is the seemingly compulsory viewing of horrible posts I never want to see… often from people I don’t even like…
Let alone follow.
It’s simply the nature of these platforms.
Algorithms… suggested posts.
I get it.
But it’s most aggravating when I see these useless posts because someone I follow replied to the post… even to express there opposition to what’s being said.
Like I can’t tell you how many nasty posts by Israelis I have seen just in the past 24 hours simply because a well meaning Muslim replied to them.
But what is the point?
What will we gain from replying to these animals?
What do we achieve by “destroying” someone with a refutation?
It’s just egos vs egos.
And we are giving them an audience they would have otherwise never reached.
The worst culprits are the dawah celebrities who are so blatantly—and increasingly transparently so—engaging with these scumbags to get more views on their own pages.
Oh, I have got a lot to say about them… but that’s for another day.
So how about we boycott people we don’t want to hear from… AND the people who give them a platform?
So I’ve been muting any accounts that don’t give me value or help me towards my goals.
I don’t care if it’s a scholar or an influence or bloody Piers Morgan interviewing a Muslims…
Anyone posting or spreading content that doesn’t align with my values and my goals gets a mute.
I hope you will consider doing the same.
That’s all for today.
I’m thinking I should write shorter letters like this to get my thoughts out more regularly.
I might not offer a solution each time or maybe I will write about a topic over several letters to see what solutions we can come up with together.
Let me know what you think!
