How not to be like the froth on the ocean
Lifeless froth and trash in the ocean have no say in where they end up. Proactive Muslims do.
‘The nations will summon each other upon you as you call guests to eat from a plate of food,’ they said ‘Will we be few in number on that day O Messenger of God?’ He said, ‘No, rather you will be many on that day, but you will be like the foam on the ocean. And God will remove the fear in the hearts of your enemies and place in your hearts al-wahan.’ They said, ‘What is al-wahan O Messenger of God?’ He said, ‘Love of this world and hatred of death.’
This is a famous report of an eye opening statement by the Prophet.
The situation he was describing was one of weakness and vulnerability. And this will happen despite having huge numbers.
According to the report, the Prophet said, "No, rather you will be many on that day, but you will be like the foam on the ocean".
The Prophet linked worldly weakness, disunity, and inability to protect ourselves to spiritual weakness, worldliness, and forgetfulness of Allah and the next world.
Numbers don’t matter.
So what does?
“Love for the world” shouldn’t be oversimplified as merely seeking worldly gain. Because it requires material strength to do many noble and necessary deeds—such as feeding one’s family or…
Raising a nation.
Someone can employ 10 Muslims thus helping maintain 10 Muslim families by providing a living. To do this and to help more Muslims in this manner requires—what many would denounce as—more worldly gain.
We can and should be strengthening ourselves against enemies who are waiting to eat us like a meal.
So gaining worldly strength is vital.
There is nothing wrong with seeking worldly gain to protect Muslims.
But in doing so you get pulled in by the tide of a broken and corrupt world.
Debt slavery, wage slavery, riba, social media… are all pulling us into further entrapment in the world.
This is al-wahan.
An honest Muslim who wants to feed his family is torn from all sides with temptation if he is not in control of his livelihood.
This is the worldly trap keeping Muslims weak.
And no one is safe.
We find corruption in the education, health and legal systems. Even our food or the water we drink aren’t free of corruption.
Unless you do something about it.
The good news is you can take steps towards freeing yourself from the ebbs and flows of the status quo so you do not become like the foam on the ocean.
You can decide for yourself the type of life you want and you get to work making it happen.
How you earn, how you learn… how you live must all be redefined in a way that supports Muslim Betterment—and counters the status quo.
It’s not about the numbers of Muslims we have in total.
It’s about how many Muslims take back control of their lives.
And this starts with clarifying for yourself exactly the type of life you want to live.
We call this… goal setting.
If you don’t want to be like the foam on the ocean, being pulled this way and that way without any control over your future…
And want to plan and achieve the life you want as many before you have…
A life full of success…
A life of service to Muslim Betterment…
And you want to know the proven method for achieving all this in the easiest, most quickest way…
I urge you to complete the goal setting exercises this weekend… and let me know how it went so I can assist you in any way I’m able to.
P.S.
I wish more Muslims would read through the detailed goal setting exercises via the link above and put pen to paper to make their dreams happen.
But I know the reality is a lot of people simply won’t do that.
So I’m working on expanding Strategic Sunnah to other formats to get more Muslims to take action.
