How to build an army: calling all armchair revolutionaries
What small step can you take today to snowball into a revolutionary movement for Muslim Betterment?
This post was originally behind the paywall. If after reading it you find that it helped you think differently, save time or move forward—consider leaving a $5+ tip.
Your support keeps high-quality life strategies accessible and helps sustain this work for even more goal-oriented Muslims.
I wrote a letter to all the armchair revolutionaries in the last edition of this newsletter.
It poked fun at the fact able bodied Muslim men are complaining daily about what they perceive as a lack of action from others. I estimate at least a million individual Muslim men are doing this online every single day—I said at least…
It’s leading me to formulate a concept (or you might call it an initiative) I’m preliminarily calling “10 thousand Muslims”. Watch this space for more info in the future.
Now, I said I poked fun at them. But I don’t doubt many if not most of them are hurting about the situation in Palestine and the suffering of Muslims in general.
I believe many of them love Allah and His Messenger and have love and concern for the Ummah…
They just don’t have clarity.
What do I mean by this?
I explain in the goal setting guide about the mistake we make about motivation. Most people believe they aren’t living the life they want because they lack motivation. But as the guide makes clear:
If you want something… you’re already motivated. You just don’t know how to turn the WANT into a HOW. In other words…
You don’t lack motivation…
You lack clarity.
Having this awareness alone is empowering.
And Muslims can do with a lot more empowerment. Even the armchair revolutionaries.
(Actually, the guide goes deeper. It helps you turn your WANT into a WHY and then a HOW. A very important secret to success.)
In yesterday’s letter I suggested you say the following when confronted by an armchair revolutionary:
“I am willing to agree with you if you can answer the following:
What is your detailed action plan?
What groundwork have you already put into action?
I’m ready to listen to what you have in place so I can decide to help you—or even join you.”
They never have an answer.
Or they says things like, “step 1: liberate the Holy Land”.
I’m not kidding… These are the kinds of answers I get.
And hilarious as it sounds… are they wrong in wanting this?
NO!
And THIS is my point.
They lack clarity. They lack goal setting.
They have a noble intention (WANT) but don’t know what it takes to plan something like this (HOW)—let alone take action.
I don’t have all the answers. Nor do I claim to know how to liberate the Holy Land. But I do know this…
Every major event in history started with the same step: goal setting.
You’re really going to have to read the goal setting guide to get the full effect but the Muslims who’ve completed the exercises in the guide will tell you it’s an eye opener…
And it’s only the first step to living your ideal life—which I hope includes advancing Muslim Betterment.
As for the armchair revolutionaries. Why do I keep referring to them as “able bodied Muslim men”?
Because their WANTS suggest they believe in fighting. So I’ll give a simple HOW just to drive the point home…
Instead of complaining about others online… why don’t you:
Commit to a training regimen
Aim to meet at least the physical fitness standard of a military regime (e.g. US Army PFT)
Document your fitness journey
Make at least one other Muslim join you per week
Form a Muslim social group for military fitness enthusiasts, combat sports, etc
Publish your workouts and other group activities
Formalise a brand around your movement
Create publications and information products
Help Muslims start chapters in different cities
Start education programmes
Monetise your movement to fund your growth
Organise regional events so likeminded Muslims can network
And so on…
Are you getting the picture?
What if you did this for every conceivable field necessary for Muslim Betterment?
Self defence
Combat
Finance
Healthcare
Food production
Business
Trade
Education
What if 1 million able bodied Muslim men did this daily?
What if it was just 10 thousand of us? Wouldn’t the results be outstanding? Wouldn’t the impact be overwhelmingly positive?
10 thousand Muslims…
You don’t need to call it Khilafah. Or mention fighting. Or anything like that.
You just need to get to work!
And it starts with goal setting.
