I’m sick to death of hearing this.
This idea that during the end times there will be no water…
And people will be relying on adhkar to nourish them.
It’s a favourite of the eschatology crowd.
But have you also noticed a lot of content creators are talking about end times issues now too?
That’s because Muslims are busy talking about anything that gets them views.
And scaremongering is a surefire way to get views and clicks.
(If you’ve ever complained about mainstream news channels spreading nonsense… now you know Muslims are guilty of the same.)
And look…
There’s nothing wrong with warning people about future challenges.
But do they ever follow it with a real-life, practical, actionable and measurable solution?
Pretty much never.
I mean… they talk about nuclear war and starvation and all manner of life threatening events but…
If they never offer—or even talk about—a solution…
Do they truly believe in these things?
I’m here to tell you they are wrong.
No… I’m not saying the hadith literature from which we get these prophecies are wrong.
I’m saying the people who create content on this subject are…
Or at the very least have a responsibility to progress the discourse towards real solutions.
I no longer have respect for anyone who talks about end times without a solutions first approach—or at the very least is asking for ideas.
Because scaremongering does nothing for you.
You don’t become prepared for a food shortage by saying “Bill Gates bought land” in 50 different chat groups.
You prepare for a food shortage by stocking up on food (it’s much more involved than that but you get the picture).
Likewise…
Copy/pasting hadith…
Linking them with conspiracy theories…
And diverting Muslim attention towards your scaremongering…
DOES NOT prepare you for a drought.
And I’ll tell you what does:
Saving water.
Amazing, right?
Believe or not you can get water TODAY and fill bottles and store it somewhere appropriate.
(Again… of course there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things… but you get my point.)
Because you believe in this hadith… correct?
So that means you believe you will literally witness a day where the rains will stop…
And people won’t have water to drink, bathe, and irrigate their crops…
Which means widespread hunger, disease and suffering?
I’m sure you want to be prepared for that.
Especially as a Muslims who believes these prophecies are true.
So shouldn’t that get you thinking about solutions?
What if those solutions already exist?
No, I’m serious…
Never heard of canning? Fermented foods? Beef jerky? MREs?
…Water storage?
What do you think preppers do?
So when that day comes when the rain stops…
You can eat the food you preserved.
And drink the water you saved.
But only if your time and energy was spent on practical solutions today…
So that you and your family are prepared for tomorrow.
Can we please only talk about solutions from now on?
P.S.
There are age old practices to prepare for droughts.
Drought cycles are predictable and farmers in the past knew what to do.
And water storage is much more involved than just filling bottles.
Like did you know your first line of defence is in the soil itself?
Let me know in the comments if you want me to write about this in the next letter.
