You might hate me for this.
Muslims today are taught to hate each other based on false ideas fuelled by legitimate anger. Here's the cure.
Have you seen this before?
This is just one example out of thousands of “news” stories on social media.
But if I asked you who the original poster is… could you tell me?
Like who he or she (or they) really are?
Would you be able to honestly say you wondered about this user’s true identity before today?
What about the one retweeting?
Who are they? Who are they affiliated with? What are their biases? What is the agenda behind posting this? Are they known to be trustworthy?
Are they known at all?
Or do posts like this win acceptance in a context of angry Muslims online looking for the next thing to blame?
Reactive Muslims.
What if I told you the post was utterly false?
And the framing of the post is designed to exploit you emotionally via already wrongly held ideas?
Like I said… this is just one example out of thousands.
And as proactive Muslims we have to be able to discern what is fake from what is real.
What is a hadith? It’s a report.
Someone said something happened. And someone (rigorously) authenticated it then reported it.
And we verify that someone and that something. We take from trusted reporters who are known for authenticating correctly.
This is our tradition. It’s what’s distinguished this Ummah from other religious groups:
Verifying information.
But with the sheer speed and frequency with which we consume crap information today… it’s like we’ve forgotten our tradition.
It's why I've added a new project for members I’m calling:
“Media training”.
Because I get a lot of messages from members asking “what about this” about a post they saw on social media. Often someone they know is asking them questions they aren’t comfortably able to answer.
This is a common problem you will face on your journey to becoming a proactive Muslim:
Others… reactive others… will distract you with their reactionary questions.
And I’m telling you clearly…
Most of what you hear about Muslims and Muslim countries on social media is a lie.
And because the brainwashing is so widespread I feel I need to say no… I’m not an *insert stupid label Muslims use to shut down intelligent discussions*.
(Whatever label pops in your mind… I promise you it’s not me. I’m here for Muslim Betterment and I recognise as a proactive Muslim the tricks used to stop Muslims from being effective. And whatever label you think of… it should be a clue about from which angle you’ve been manipulated to trust nameless faceless accounts but not your Muslim brother writing to you directly.)
You might automatically hate me for doing this. But think about it:
With all that is going on… if the information we’re fed is manipulated then how effective will we be?
With the right information we can greatly increase our effectiveness in all areas of concern… like in the effort to liberate Palestine.
It’s that deep.
And it’s also a big reason why there is so much misinformation and manipulation in the first place…
They want to blind us from the clarity needed to open the doors for so many solutions.
With the media training discussions I’m going to:
Go in detail on interesting social media or news stories.
Show you how to analyse and verify posts.
Highlight the techniques used to manipulate Muslims.
Allow you to send stories you’re struggling with to get clarity on the truth.
Show you how to explain the reality behind these posts to others.
We’re doing it in the private Telegram group. I’ll send the link below.
P.S.
Let me reiterate.
I have no feelings about leaders or countries (don’t let the image trigger you!).
The fact I have to say this is all the more proof we need media training.
If you’re committed to Muslim Betterment and want to become proactive in your life then you won’t want to miss out on the discussions.
